Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services have changed the way we provide services in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Read on to see how we are innovating our programs in response to community needs.
During the period of physical distancing, our settlement services will focus on:
Welfare checks and support receiving current COVID-19 related information:
Our Settlement services team conducts regular welfare checks with community members and ensure up -to -date and trustworthy information about COVID-19 and stay at home messaging is received . We focus on sharing information in community languages, including producing voice-over and video messages tailored to clients where English is not their first language.
Food Share and Take Home- Meals Packs:
We are providing weekly food share and delicious take-home meal packs to families and community members with high needs. This is a pick -up service with some deliveries made to community members who have no access to transport.
We continue to offer casework support over the phone and on other online platforms. The main areas community members are seeking assistance are employment support, completing Centrelink forms, home-based schooling and accessing the health system.
Friday Food Safari – Virtual Community Meal
Friday Food Safari started as a way to help people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds gain skills and share their cuisine with others. In light of COVID-19, we changed our Friday delivery model to a virtual community meal prepared by our Food Safari chef and on Fridays collected from the Old Church on the Hill.
Through our new ‘pay what you can afford’ community meal model, you can donate a meal to someone in need but it’s not just about the food relief. We recognise that we are all affected by isolation. To maintain that social connection we encourage people to organise a virtual lunch date with a friend and share on social media, #communitiessupportingcommunities. This is about giving people a sense of connection and community as well as nutritious food.
Family Learning Packs
Due to physical distancing we are not running our English classes in a classroom. We have designed home learning packs to be both educational and fun for our students and their families to do together. We send these packs out to households and partner organisations on a fortnightly basis.
